Painter, graphic artist

From a merchant family. He studied at the Moscow Commercial College. In 1868 he entered the IAH, was engaged first as a volunteer, 1870 — permanent student. In 1871 he was awarded two small and two large silver medals for drawings and sketches, 1874 — a small gold medal for the program "the good Samaritan". In 1877 competed to receive a large gold medal with the painting "the Marriage in Cana of Galilee", but to no avail. In the same year, released from the Academy with the rank of class artist 1-й degree. In 1890 he was awarded the title of academician for the painting "the Family of Godunov" and "the Morning of Holy Saturday".

Lived in St. Petersburg (?). Worked as a portraitist, genre painter, history painter. In 1880-х worked on the orders of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, executed a number of paintings on historical themes from the reign of Ivan the terrible. Created sketches for 24 mosaics in the Church of Resurrection (Savior on spilled blood).

Presented work at academic exhibitions (1870).

Works are in several Museum collections, including the State Museum-памятнике St Isaac's Cathedral.
