representative of the famous Austrian dynasty of artists. The son of a famous painter, Johann-Baptist Lampi the Elder. Initial artistic skills has led her father. In 1783-1794 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in Fyugera G. and G. Mauer. After graduating from the course, came to St. Petersburg to his father.

worked as a portraitist. In 1795, a copy of a portrait AI Samoilov of the original Lampi the Elder and drawings from the antique statues was awarded an honorary associate of the Academy of the free IAH. In 1797 a portrait of professor of historical painting IA Akimov elected as an academician. In September 1804, together with his wife and daughter returned to Vienna. He worked at the court of Emperor Franz II. In 1813 he became a professor and a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He was assistant to his father's workshop, often copied and finished his canvases. From 1822 he headed the workshop. Younger brother, Franz Xavier Lampi (1782-1852), and son, Johann Baptist Lampi-third (1807-1857), were also painters.

In Petersburg period of Lampi, Jr., was soon an assistant in the performance of numerous articles and his father, rarely spoke as an independent author. This determined the unusual proximity of the picturesque manner of both artists, sometimes virtually indistinguishable, so the crucial issue is the division of works of father and son. Portraits created in the studio Lampi, appealed to customers noble posture, a pleasant facial expressions and well written accessories. According to eyewitnesses, the success of artists was so great that the Russian court was left literally not a single person who has not impressed them with a brush.

Works Lampi, Jr., are in many museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery, the Scientific Research Museum of Russia Academy of Arts.
