The painter spent her childhood in the Crimea. She studied in Moscow at the faculty of history and philology at the Higher Women’s Courses (1914), at the workshops of C. F. Yuon and I. O. Dudin (1914–1916) and I. I. Mashkov (1916–1918). Ermilova-Platova was under the influence of M. F. Larionov, N. S. Goncharova, M. A. Voloshin, and A. A. Exter. Ermilova-Platova painted in cubism manner, later in neo-primitivism style.

In 1919–1921 the painter lived in Simferopol, worked at the art section of the Crimean people’s education department. In 1921 she returned to Moscow; in 1923 the painter F. F. Platov married her. Ermilova-Platova painted landscapes, portraits. She created a series of drawings on the theme of people’s everyday life, the Great Patriotic War, the circus and many others.

In 1930s Ermilova-Platova was accused of formalism and was excluded from Moscow Section of the Union of Artists (MOSKh).

Since 1945 Ermilova-Platova worked in the technique of appliqué.

Ermilova-Platova began to expose her works since 1911. She took part in the jubilee exhibition Artists of the RSFSR for 15 years in Leningrad and in Moscow (1932–1934) and other exhibitions.

In 1934 personal exhibition of Ermilova-Platova was held in Moscow; the joint exhibitions of Ermilova-Platova and F. Platov were held in 1939 and in 1944.

Paintings of Ermilova-Platova were characterized by emotional richness, sketchy manner, and brightness of colors.

Works by Efrosinya Ermilova-Platova are in many museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and others.
